FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Mercor employs an AI interviewer to pose role-specific questions, generate a transcript of your responses, and evaluate your performance for the listing. Most interviews require approximately 20 minutes, although some may be shorter or longer. Each unique interview is only necessary to complete once; if another application necessitates the same interview, your existing result will be retained. We understand this can be a new experience. That’s why we offer Practice Interview, which you can take freely and which does not affect future opportunities.
From your Mercor dashboard:
  1. Sign in to your Mercor dashboard.
  2. Proceed to the Application tab — the steps may be completed in any sequence.
  3. If the application necessitates an AI interview, please access the application and initiate the interview process from the step list.
  4. The synchronization of completed steps across applications ensures that if you have already completed the interview, it will be reflected as such.
Yes. Take the Practice Interview: it is free, it is not tied to any application, and it does not affect future opportunities. You can take it as many times as you like.Separately, you can retake your official AI interview up to three times if you’d like to strengthen your responses before submitting an application. The interview waiting room asks you to reserve retakes for technical issues and notes that hiring managers can see your retake count. A retake also resets your application progress.
  • You do not need to complete the interview immediately. Choose a time that works best for you.
  • Use a computer with a working camera and microphone; test both before starting.
  • Ensure your full face is visible and your voice is clear throughout the interview.
  • Take the interview in a quiet, distraction-free environment.
  • Wearing headphones and using an external microphone is recommended.
  • Interviews are conducted in English unless otherwise specified.
  • Captions are enabled by default and can be turned off, but not expanded.
  • Some interviews are technical and require deep discussion of prior experience; others test language or reasoning skills.
  • Have pen and paper (and a calculator, if relevant) available.
  • Screen sharing may be required. Only full-screen sharing is supported.
  • A “hall of mirrors” effect during screen share is normal and temporary.
  • If the interviewer interrupts due to a pause, you can let it know you weren’t finished.
  • Some interviews include a whiteboard. Its content saves automatically and does not require submission.
If you experience issues, use the Help button in the interview interface.
  • Recommended: Google Chrome (latest version).

  2. Please refresh the page and rejoin the session.
  3. Use the appropriate browser; Chrome (latest version) is highly recommended.
  4. Please verify your internet connectivity, as unstable Wi-Fi or limited bandwidth may hinder the bot’s response capabilities.
  5. Clear cache and cookies via Chrome: go to Settings, then Privacy & Security, select ‘Clear browsing data,’ and ensure that ‘Cached images and files’ as well as ‘Cookies’ are checked.
  6. Disable VPNs and extensions — Temporarily deactivate VPNs, ad blockers, and privacy extensions, as they may obstruct live AI streaming. Conduct a quick test by opening an Incognito window and attempting again.

Our AI interview is the standard and only method for screening candidates.
It ensures consistent, fair, and scalable evaluations across all applicants.
At this stage, interviews cannot be conducted via chat, call, or any other medium.
Unfortunately, we’re not able to share interview recordings or transcripts, as they’re stored internally and used solely for evaluation purposes.
A required setup check that has failed or is still waiting for you keeps Start interview grayed out. The waiting room shows each check on the Setup checks tab, with its status and what to do next.
Setup checks tab with Working mic, Face in frame, Good lighting, Working camera, and Steady camera all passed, above the Start interview button
The required checks are marked Required:
  • Working mic: select Test mic and read the phrase on screen out loud.
  • Screenshare: appears only for interviews that need screen sharing. Select Share your screen and share your entire screen, not a window or tab.
The other checks help you set up a clear recording and do not hold the button:
  • Face in frame: sit so your whole face is in the picture.
  • Good lighting: face a window or lamp, not away from it.
  • Working camera: check that the picture is sharp. If it is blurred, wipe your lens.
  • Steady camera: set your device on a desk or table.
If the button stays grayed out after you complete the required checks, check the camera preview first. If your browser blocks your camera or microphone, the preview shows Camera permission required or the device menu shows Permission required, while the line under the button keeps its usual gray text. Allow camera and microphone access in your browser, then select Restart devices.Otherwise, read the message under the button:
  • If it asks you to allow your camera and microphone, allow them in your browser, then select Restart devices.
  • If it reports a poor network signal, check your internet connection.
  • If it says your camera feed appears black, check your camera and your lighting.
  • If it says screenshare is required for this interview, select Share your screen and share your entire screen.
For more help, select Troubleshooting help under the camera preview.
You are notified when your application moves to the next stage. In the meantime, you’re welcome to keep applying to other open roles on the platform.

No. When a role is marked “Not accepting applications,” its application window has closed, even if you started the process earlier. The platform will not let you complete or submit that application. You are welcome to keep applying to other open roles on the platform.
An interview attempt that ends much earlier than its planned length does not count, and you need to retake it. If you end the interview early while applying, a message asks you to retake it, and the interview page then shows Interview too short with the date of the attempt. To retake the interview:
  1. Select Retake now.
  2. Follow the prompts to start a new attempt.
A retake counts toward your retake limit (see question 7). If you have no retakes left, the page shows No retakes left instead.
